Oro Valley is one of the top five safest cities in Arizona. 

 SafeWise.com ranked Oro Valley in the top five of the “safest places to live in Arizona” for 2020 through 2023.  OV was also ranked the number one safest city in AZ in 2022 & 2023 by Elite Personal Finance.

 Chief Kara Riley was chosen as OV’s new police chief when Chief Danny Sharp retired in February 2020 with 20 years of service in that role.  Sharp was voted Best of the Northwest Community Leader in 2020.  Riley was voted Best of the Northwest Community Leader in 2021 & 2023. 

 In 2022, OVPD participated in the Arizona Association of Chiefs of Police law enforcement accreditation process.  The accreditation process took two years to complete & OVPD was found to be in compliance with over 170 best practice standards in policing. 

 Also in 2022, the AZ Department of Public Access Integrity Unit completed an audit for compliance with the Uniform Crime Reporting requirements.   The audit demonstrated OVPD’s commitment to compliance with accurate & timely reporting of OV crime statistics.
